SEO - Do I Really Need These Extra Costs?

This is a rather native question, especially for those who already tried to promote their own websites or products online without SEO. For starters, SEO is an abbreviation for Search Engine Optimization, just in case there is someone seeing this abbreviation for the first time, and the purpose of SEO is to make your website easier for your prospective visitors to find. Now that we have a basic understanding of what SEO is, let's deal with our question: do you really need those extra costs associated with SEO? Well, we can split this question in two: 1) is SEO needed as such, and 2) do you have to pay someone for it or can you do it yourself. Let's answer the two in turn.
Do I need SEO for my website?
Do you want people to visit your website? Do you want your website to be more likely to be found by prospective clients than your competitor's? Do you have something to say or to sell to billions of people on the web? If you can answer these questions positively, then you do need to think of optimizing your website visibility.

The vast majority of internet users use search engines to look for specific products or services online, and almost 70 percent of them consider only the first ten search results offered by the search engine, and fewer than 3 percent will look further than 30 first results. There are thousands of people who want to hear what you have to say, or who want to buy what you've got to sell, and they don't only want to find you, but they actually look for you. All you have to do is help them find your website by optimizing its search engine visibility.
Of course, you can advertise your website using banners and links on other websites or by buying Google advertising services, and yes, these are advertising means that are worth considering, but the cheapest and the most effective way to promote your website is to do SEO.
Do I have to pay someone for SEO or can I do it myself?
It depends. If you know all the major factors considered by search engines in deciding which page should be shown first and which one afterwards, and if you have plenty of time, willingness, and ability to optimize your website, then why not. But given the number of Ifs above, it may be reasonable to hire a SEO company or freelancer. The obvious advantage of hiring a SEO consultant is that you know your website will be in good hands and you don't have to spend your precious time. However, giving control over your website to some sort of amateurs that have little idea of proper optimization may not only fail to increase your website visibility, but can actually make your website less visible. Internet is full of self-proclaimed experts in all areas, so you must be careful when selecting the right person or company to conduct your website search engine optimization. Be aware of those individuals who promise tremendous progress in a matter of days; website optimization is a gradual process that requires some time, effort and investment to reach success.

And the last thing to keep in mind is that SEO is not a temporary process that you have to get over at some point to ensure your website's success. You must constantly improve and optimize your website to keep it competitive to the rest of constantly developing and improving web.
